Conrad Schewe brings to Burton-Katzman a broad background in real estate with a specialization in complex public and private financial structures. Having more than twelve years of experience in project planning, real estate development, construction and urban redevelopment, Mr. Schewe has gained particular expertise in the area of public finance, tax credits, and other federal, state and local development incentives. Since joining the firm, he has worked extensively on the entitlement and development of residential, office and mixed use projects.
A 1995 graduate of Eastern Michigan University with a degree in urban and regional planning, Mr. Schewe began his career in Detroit, Michigan with Zachary and Associates, Inc. , a consulting firm specializing in financing tools and a variety of tax incentives for urban redevelopment, as well as the preparation of strategic redevelopment plans. This position provided a unique opportunity to work directly with federal, state and local development authorities.
In 1998, Mr. Schewe moved to Denver, Colorado where he worked for a non-profit housing developer. The firm specialized in acquiring and rehabilitating apartment buildings to help preserve affordable housing in an area that was experiencing tremendous housing price increases. Mr. Schewe then moved to become vice-president of a general contracting company in Denver that focused on renovating apartment and retail buildings, and new construction.
Returning to the Detroit area in 2002, Mr. Schewe rejoined Zachary and Associates, Inc. as a financing consultant. There, he specialized in assisting many of the area's most prominent private developers and non-profit agencies prepare planning programs and financing packages for a variety of residential, commercial and mixed-use projects. Mr. Schewe is a member of the American Planning Association.
